I have never had any desire for or seen the appeal in the big touring bikes. To be honest the Goldwings and other big baggers seem like cars on two wheels.  The thought of pushing an 800 lb motorcycle through the twisties seems wrong.  Huh I would imagine if you need to munch a lot of miles these machines would eat the miles with ease, so that must be the appeal.

Can a motorcycle be to be?

And ride like a two wheel bread truck.. I dont think you need a heavy weight bike to rack up the miles. Most mid size bikes can be made to ride well and comfortable with a little money and some effort.

One thing I have done to make my little 750 more comfortable was to add an Airhawk seat pad for my longer rides. it was a little pricey but worth every penny.
